Why Lights Back On

Bringing people together through compassion and community.

Napoleon Hill once said, "Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit." This is the essence of Lights Back On. This passion project was born after founder, George and Countess Young encountered financial difficulties that prevented them from paying their electric bills. For a while, they had to make do without electricity in a country where almost everything runs on electricity.

Having experienced poverty in such a way, they understand the need to have a helping hand.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, one in three households face challenges in meeting energy needs. And with the passing of the most recent Hurricane Helene, local energy infrastructures have been disrupted. This means that many more people are currently living without adequate energy in this moment.

This is where Lights Back On comes in. We know what it feels like to have to choose between having shelter over our heads and having electricity. We also know the relief that individuals and families feel when someone lends a helping hand with bills they would otherwise not be able to pay for months on end.

Today, more than ever, there is a greater need for assistance as the cost of living has increased drastically, yet minimum wage does not reflect these changes. We believe that if it is possible, no one should have to forego necessities just because they are not making enough to cover all their bills.

Our mission at Lights Back On is to bridge the gap between people and the resources they need. No one should have to choose between basic necessities. By providing resources to our communities, we are able to assist and alleviate the stresses that poverty can cause.

At the end of the day, we aim to bring people together and restore hope in families and individuals who would otherwise have to go without. When we come together, there is truly nothing we, as humans, cannot overcome.
